John has served as a faculty member, department chair, program director, academic dean, vice president for academic affairs, interim vice president for advancement, provost and senior vice president, and university president. He has taught at the rank of instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, and full professor and has been awarded tenure. He has frequently presented at professional conferences and has provided professional service as a journal review board member, newsletter editor, ESL program accreditation site reviewer, and accreditation liaison officer. His focus is on continuous improvement, quality assurance, and professional integrity in all that he does. To John, success occurs when students are learning and persisting in their studies, when academic programs are meaningful and current and lead to successful outcomes for students, and when all efforts are based on doing the right things to help students develop as learners and grow as people.
